Application Information

General: This UGCSA scholarship is to aid current Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents and/or Equipment Managers with offsetting the costs of higher education or GCSAA Certification Programs (CGCS, ASCS, CTEM).

The applications will be judged by a panel of judges who are NOT affiliated with the UGCSA.  All judging decisions will be final. All applicants will be notified by mail of their status by June 30 of the application year.  Two (2) $1,000.00 scholarships will be awarded, and the check will be made payable to the applicant.

Note: Two (2) $1,000 scholarships will be awarded in the “Superintendent/Assistant/EM” category and two (2) $1,000 will be awarded in the “All Members/Family Members” category.  If there are not enough applicants in one category, award money can be awarded to the other category.

Eligibility:

  • The applicant must be attending a post-secondary, trade school, or applying for a GCSAA Certification during the year of the application.
  • Multiple members of one family may apply for the scholarship.
  • All current UGCSA Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents and/or Equipment Managers are eligible for this scholarship.  This includes all current and past members of the UGCSA Board of Directors.

Criteria for Selection:

  • Applicants will be evaluated and awarded points in the following categories.  A maximum of 16 points are available.

In addition, the applicant must submit an original essay (minimum 500 words).  The essay must be written on one of the following topics:

  • Improvement is usually slow and invisible; write about a time that you had to trust the process and how this applied to your schooling or another goal.
  • What do you consider to be the single most important societal problem? Why?
  • Environmentalists argue that golf course land is not only a waste of space, but also harbors harmful impacts to the earth and environment, such as pesticide use. This negative impact occurs by using large quantities of water and destroying habitats for wildlife species. What do you believe and why?
  • Drought conditions are a major topic in Utah.  How is it impacting our communities and how do we improve it? Do you believe golf courses are doing enough to combat the problem?
